Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) for Young Mothers

Supports young mothers to build sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, youth economic groups and access to finance — reaching 714 young mothers so far.
Launched in December 2024, the Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) Programme supports young mothers to build sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship and financial literacy training, identification of economic opportunities, formation and registration of youth economic groups, mentorship, and access to finance. The programme has reached 714 young mothers across Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Songwe, covering Ilala, Dodoma City, Bahi, Chamwino, Kondoa, Kongwa, Momba and Songwe. To date, 79 youth economic groups have been formed, with 35 formally registered. A key focus is preparing these groups to access the 10% Local Government Authority loans, helping young mothers turn their skills and business ideas into viable income-generating activities and greater economic independence. The programme also developed the YEE Portal as a digital platform to strengthen young mothers’ access to economic opportunities while improving the coordination and tracking of youth economic groups. The Portal serves as a central resource hub where groups can access essential information and documents to support their formalization, business development and financing journey, including resources to help them prepare for and access the 10% Local Government Authority loans and other financial opportunities.
